TheUniversity of Asmara in Eritrea (UoA) is pleased
to announce new job opportunities in the Department of Computer
Science. Computer Science (www.csd.uoa.edu.er) is a young department
within the College of Sciences, currently offering a B.Sc. degree
which has attracted some of the brightest students on
campus. Expansion to master-level and Ph.D. studies are planned for the future. The language of instruction is English.

There is a vacancy for

1-2 teaching positions at the associate professor level,

ideally starting in the first semester of the academic
year 2004/5, i.e. first half of September 2004.

Eritrea, a remarkable country of 3.5 million people situated in the
Horn of Africa became the newest African nation in 1993 after thirty
years of struggle for independence. Being located north of Ethiopia
and east of Sudan, it also borders on the Red Sea with some 1200
kilometers of coast line.

Asmara, Eritrea's capital, sits on a plateau of almost 2400 meters,
thus enjoying a pleasant climate all year round while also being free
from malaria. The city combines a distinct Italian flair with typical African
characteristics, yet is one of the safest African
capitals, where women can be seen walking alone at night.
While Eritrean society in general enjoys a low crime rate and manages to
do without corruption, many visitors have also been surprised by the friendly
charm and warm hospitality of the Eritrean people.

The Department of Computer Science encourages energetic academics who
thrive under challenging circumstances, have strong demonstrable
teaching skills and ideally come equipped with a proven track record of scientific research to
apply for the position(s) listed above. A minimum of Master's degree in
Computer Science is required, Ph.D. holders are preferred.

Contracts are for one or two (1 or 2) years initially, with the possibility of renewal.
